The Essence of Mindfulness: Workshop with Melanie Pescud
The practice of mindfulness provides a powerful tool for transforming our inner lives and, thus, the way we interact with the outer world.
“In mindfulness one is not only restful and happy, but alert and awake. Meditation is not an escape; it is a serene encounter with reality.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Mindfulness is a powerful tool for navigating all of life's seasons. As the months get cooler and the days become shorter, you may find yourself naturally turning inwards as you cosy up inside. This is the perfect time to create the time and space to practice mindfulness and cultivate inner stillness with meditation.
So what is mindfulness? Mindfulness is about being present in the moment on purpose. It is about viewing what is with wise detachment and it is about the cultivation of loving understanding and non-judgement.
Mindfulness creates positive changes in the brain that:
- Reduce stress (and work/study-related stress), anxiety, depression, and burnout
- Create more stability in relationships
- Cultivate the ability to concentrate for longer
- Improve pain management and the ability to cope with illness
- Boost resilience and enhance post-traumatic growth
- Increase self-compassion and compassion for others
- Improve general health and wellbeing
- Improve academic success
Like any skill, the more it’s practiced the more proficient you become at it.
